About Us
In 1947, Ed Jay and his partner Rudy Hentz went to work on producing a better heat source for liquid asphalt. The goal was to create a cleaner, safer, more reliable source of heat that could be used to maintain temperature in a wide variety of industrial products.
Until then, industries that used process heating systems could only choose between fossil-fuel-fired or steam-heating units that were prone to maintenance problems, unreliable, inefficient, environmentally unsound and that damaged the materials being heated.
With their development of consistent, electric, low watt-density resistance heat, Process Heating Company was formed. Our patented components allow our Lo-Density® drywell-style immersion heaters to dissipate heat evenly, spreading it out over large surface areas while keeping the sheath’s temperature low. This leads to long element life and the virtual elimination of damage to the products being heated.

EFFICIENT
Electric heat offers 100% energy efficiency throughout the lifetime of the heater, because all of the energy is used to heat. Compare this to fossil-fuel heaters, which operate at only 85% efficiency when new—and that efficiency quickly drops to 50% to 65% over time.

QUALITY PERFORMANCE
Because our Lo-Density heaters dissipate heat evenly, while keeping the sheath’s temperature low, they preserve the integrity and quality of sensitive materials, such as asphalt, emulsions or industrial fluids.

SAFE
With no burners, combustion or open flame, our electric heat is safe. You literally can set it and forget it without worry.

LOW OR NO MAINTENANCE
Lo-Density electric heaters operate for years with little to no maintenance. And because of our drywell-style elements, we’ve eliminated the need to drain tanks for service.

DEPENDABLE
Process Heating Company heaters are dependable and durable, often providing 100% efficient heat for 30 years or more. In addition, we offer an industry-exclusive 5-year warranty for heating elements.

CLEAN
Electric heat is clean and sustainable —with no emissions, no stacks, no air quality or boiler permits, no spills and no mess.
